Day 59 Since You've Been Gone - Wed Oct 13

Just wanted to update you on how our life has been in San Diego. :)

I just got an interview to New York Medical College. Yay, it's my first one! We celebrated yesterday night by having some sparking wine called a Cava Rose. It was yummy. We decided to get you into wines since you are now desensitized to alcohol. Hehe. Twelve more secondaries to go! We are aiming to be done by next Monday.

Michael bought a new espresso machine from a company called Nespresso (by Nestle). It uses single-dispenser capsules that cost 55 cents each. You can buy them at a boutique in the Nordstrom at the San Francisco Bloomingdales. He has one every morning. It came with a milk frother and Wen likes to make cappuccinos with it. If you start liking coffee, you should try it when you get back. I think you will like an Affogato, which is an espresso shot poured over a scoop of vanilla ice cream. So yummy! XD

He is also inspired to start a club about leukemia and lymphoma awareness. Before, if you were a match with someone, they would have to stick this big needle into your bone marrow to collect stem cells WITHOUT anesthesia. Now all you do is donate blood and they concentrate the stem cells they find there. Super easy right? So he will look into finding an organization to work with them on doing this. We will probably start with our friends first and expand from there. Cool huh?

This idea was inspired by Wen's senior thesis project. She is gonna build an actual heart model and needs fresh human blood to run through it to see where clots are most likely to form. You will be back in time to donate so we can all contribute in the name of science. ;) It will be interesting to see how her group will organize this collection. They are applying for funding from A.S. so if they get a small grant, we can get paid! (though only about $20)

By the way, your Woot shirt came in the mail. Which one did you buy? I haven't seen one that I liked in a while, though I was tempted to get that Coffee Cat shirt. Michael said it didn't look good.

We will be BBQing at the beach Saturday (tentative on weather, it's only predicted to be 69 degrees). It's been gloomy here the past two days so I don't have high hopes on it being nice enough. Michael's dad gave us some pretty fatty steaks so they are not pan fry-able (grease would go everywhere). Hope you are having a good time in Hong Kong!

Day 49 Since You've Been Gone - Sun Oct 3

Michael and I took a little trip to Disneyland this past weekend to de-stress. We were at the "It's a Small World" ride and thought of you when we saw these.

The top postcard on the second picture says "wish you were here". Just in case you couldn't read it. :)

Day 39 Since You've Been Gone - Thurs Sept 23

It's the first day Michael has cooked for us since we have all been back. Look how happy he is! :D Dinner composed of scallops (which are currently frying in this picture) as well as beans. He has really gotten into making "Western" food, which Wen and him both agree is easier to make than Chinese food. He also did this appetizer thing where you first toast the bread with olive oil and then grate raw garlic on top of it. It's way easier than chopping it up and it getting burned onto the bread. And then we ate it with cheese and meats. We shall do it for you when you return.

We were celebrating Wen's GRE score (she did very well and does not need to take it again, yay!) as well as Michael's interview invites for UC Davis as well as New York Medical College. He will be in NY late next month and in Davis mid-January. I'm still waiting for mine... :/ Anyhow, we had champagne with our meal. Now that you can drink, we will definitely start exposing you to wine (since it sounds like you have already been exposed to beer and mixed drinks :P).

I will keep trying to update as we do more stuff without you. Hehe. Miss you and hope you are having lots of fun!

Day 38 Since You've Been Gone - Wed Sept 22

Today was our first dessert + tea time with the three of us back together in San Diego. It also happened to be the Mid-Autumn Festival so of course we had to have mooncake, courtesy of my mom and the Golden Gate Bakery.

Of course, everybody missed having you at the table, as you can see by their sad faces. Hehe. ;)

We were having our dessert during our usual tea time. It was greatly missed and we were all excited to start up our routine again.
